Description

Millikan’s apparatus, without inbuilt power sources, permits the atomising of a latex solution into small spheres and the rubber hose induces a static charge upon them. They are introduced between charged plates in the form of a cell. As the voltage between these cell plates is reversed, the particles are attracted to one plate or the other. Their movement is viewed through a small telescope with a graticule. Power sources are required to be connected. Knowing the potential on the cell plates and plotting the velocities of the spheres permits the calculation of the charge on a single electron.

Use it for success in performing Millikan’s experiment of charged particles moving in an electric field. Brownian motion may also be observed. The instrument is designed so that a minimum of preparation is required prior to an experiment. The tiny particles of latex are easily seen and measurements are easily taken. Supplied complete with calibrated telescope, cell with viewing windows, atomiser and injection device, polarity reversing facility, voltage adjustment facility and bottle of 1 micron diameter latex spheres. Power supply required: 300 volts DC at 1mA and 12 volts AC or DC at 3 amps.
